2012: a look back

I realized as I looked at my past posts that it’s been nearly a month since I last posted. December wasn’t necessarily that crazy busy for us, but I think you know how life works sometime.

I thought a good re-entrance into blogland would be a quick review of 2012. Where did we start and where did we end?

We started the year driving out of Wisconsin headed home. Doctor Destructo was 7 months old and not quite crawling (mere army crawl). We have ended the year at home, going to bed only a little later than usual. Doctor Destructo is 19 months now, and can walk and run with the best of the toddlers.

In between, we celebrated Doctor D’s first birthday, then my birthday, then Hubby’s birthday, we celebrated that Hubby didn’t have any comp exams this summer, traveled to Wisconsin and back again, got Hubby through prospectus defense, and through all of it, learned a bit more about ourselves and deepened the relationships we have.

The best thing that happened in 2012 was this was my first full year as a full time stay at home mom. I’d been dreaming of this for years and years and years, and when I became a sahm in May 2011, I felt like I’d arrived. At the same time, the adjustment to being a sahm has been far more difficult than I ever imagined it would be. I love it, yes, I just have little confidence doing it! I like having a carefully crafted job description with specific standards and objects I’m trying to reach. Though this is very much a job (and work) I don’t have those details I desire. I know I can create them, but its taken me time to figure out what is reasonable and what isn’t. I think I’m finally at the point where I could start writing that job description and create those objects and standards. (They will take the form of yearly/monthly/weekly goals, I think.)

I could go on about the challenges and successes of 2012, but they will all rotate around being a sahm, Doctor Destructo, and diapers. So, instead…. a year of pictures!
